“It’s About More than Just the Score!”
Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy and Holy Spirit youth basketball teams raise money for
make-a-wish foundation of northeast Ny
ALBANY, Jan. 7, 2013 – The 3rd and 4th grade basketball teams at Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy and Holy Spirit are pleased to announce that they will be presenting a check for over $1,000.00 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast NY on Thursday, January 10, 2013. The check, which is due to the generosity of 13 sponsors, will be used to sponsor wishes for special children in the capital region who have life threatening illnesses. Dr. William C. Trigg III, CEO of the Make-A-Wish Northeast NY Chapter, will be on hand to accept the check and offer his remarks.
The two (2) teams, which will play their third game against each other this season on January 10th, 6:00 pm at the Hebrew Academy campus located at 54 Sand Creek Road in Albany, have combined to score 73 points in the first two (2) games. Sponsors have generously agreed to donate $1.00 for every point scored by the teams for all three (3) games.
“Being able to use basketball to teach our children about core values such as giving and doing good deeds is something I am most proud of,” said Richard Drucker, coach of the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy 3rd and 4th grade team and current parent of three (3) students at the school. “Being able to collaborate with Holy Spirit and bring families together of two (2) different faiths who share the same ideals only enhances that pride and teaches our children another important lesson that ties into basketball and life—The power of working together towards a common goal.”
“I want to thank all of our sponsors for making this possible,” said Robert Blake, coach of the Holy Spirit 3rd and 4th grade basketball team and parent of two (2) students at the school. “The values we are demonstrating through this collaboration serve to teach our children, and are an extension of those they are learning at school and in church, that sports can provide a valuable medium for [teaching] our children life lessons.”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast NY was chosen as the charity due to the direct impact the organization has had on the Drucker family. Their son, Amitai (6), was granted a wish in 2010 to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Amitai maintains that the wish he was granted was, “the best time of his life.”
Coaches, players, and administrators from both respective schools, as well as sponsors, will be available for interviews on request.
The Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capital District, located in Albany, creates an outstanding integrative curriculum in General and Judaic studies and celebrates the richness of Jewish tradition, Torah and Israel in a nurturing and respectful school community that values the uniqueness of each child and the diversity of Jewish practice.
The Holy Spirit School, located in East Greenbush, provides students with an academically excellent program in a value-centered atmosphere that strives to instill in the children Christ-centered moral values.
